FAQ & Support

LightningRPG turns the raw material of your tabletop sessions — transcripts, notes, journals — into high-quality session artefacts that bring your campaign to life. Illustrated narrative PDFs, campaign journals, animated scene art, podcast episodes and audiobook narrations: keepsakes worth holding onto, built from the sessions you actually played.

Getting started

What inputs do you need to create a session?

At a bare minimum, LightningRPG needs details of the events of a session — the kind of thing supplied by a session journal, a recorded transcript, individual notes, or other written sources.

Most voice recordings such as on iOS or Android now come with automatic transcriptions, so the easiest approach is to record your session and post the transcript into the Session Material section when you create a new session. GM input and corrections can be added as separate text.

Campaign Details is a separate section, used for campaign settings and character descriptions. It's the better place for reference and world-building material such as character descriptions and environment. This information will be retained and re-used across sessions to ensure consistency

What happens to my session information?

We value your privacy and store your content securely. To create the session content, we do provide parts of the source material to our various LLM suppliers, which are governed by their own privacy policies. Where possible, we always pick an option to not allow your user input for training third-party LLMs.

Once you're happy with a session generation, you can permanently delete any source material you provided from our servers using View Input in the sessions view or deleting the session. For more details, see our Privacy Statement.

Consistency & canon

How do I keep things consistent between generations?

AI generators naturally introduce variation, so the details can drift between runs. You have a few ways to lock things down:

  • Edit Campaign — Add the details that shouldn't change, like your world setting or character descriptions. As characters grow and evolve, keep these updated; your changes automatically flow into the system's character references in the background.
  • Recreate a generation — When you recreate, you can add specific notes describing what you want changed or corrected.
  • Session notes — Include specific requests at the time of generation. These get incorporated into the journal.
What is a Campaign Description and how do I use it?

Your Campaign Description holds the details that keep your campaign consistent from session to session. It typically includes brief descriptions of your characters and players, plus an overview of the setting. If you don't provide one, LightningRPG will infer it from your session material as best it can — but for reliable consistency, it's worth writing and maintaining your own as the campaign develops.

Example

Kowloon-Sant Angeles, 2099. A vertical megacity built in the drained basin of a dead sea, where the old streets flooded decades ago and the city simply grew upward on stilts and scaffold and stacked shipping-arcology until the sun became a rumor the rich kept for themselves up in the Spires. Down in the Sump, everything runs on rain, rumor, and rented electricity. Six corporations own the grid, the water, the augmetic clinics, and most of the people; the rest scrape by as runners, fixers, and ghosts in the data. The rain never quite stops, so the whole city glows — every surface slick and mirrored, every alley lit by a hundred holo-signs in colors that don't exist in nature: hot magenta noodle bars, acid-green ripperdoc shingles, deep electric blue from the canal water, sodium-orange smog catching the spotlights of corporate VTOLs. It is beautiful in the way an oil slick is beautiful.

  • Mireille "Mire" Okonkwo — a burned ex-corporate netrunner who jacks the grid through a cracked deck and a chrome jaw, fast-talking and faster on the ICE, running from a non-disclosure agreement with teeth.
  • Tycho — a hulking augmented enforcer with mil-spec subdermal plating and a gentle voice, the muscle who'd rather talk you down than break you, hauling a debt to the clinic that rebuilt him.
  • Sister Vex — a street-shaman and back-alley medic who reads the city's data-spirits like tarot and patches bullet holes with the same hands, equal parts faith and pharmaceuticals.
  • Dorian Kestrel — a silver-tongued fixer and face with a custom optics rig and a wardrobe worth more than the others' lives, who always knows a guy and is always, slightly, lying.

Editing & regenerating

Can I change details of a particular generation?

Each generation is unique, so individual edits aren't possible. Instead, you can recreate the generation with additional notes or changes. This produces a fresh version in full — text, images, and animations. Images from the previous generation are preserved in your image gallery.

The session didn't turn out the way I expected. What can I do?

The story generators working behind the scenes take variable input, which means outputs vary too — occasionally an item is skipped or doesn't come out exactly as requested. If you have a specific preference, include it in your session input files, or in your session notes when you recreate a session. Recreating with extra detail is often the fastest way to correct a specific problem.

Quality matters to us and we're always working behind the scenes to improve. If you have suggestions or things you'd like to see, email us at support@lightningrpg.com.

Some of my items didn't generate. Is this normal?

Occasionally an item won't be produced as requested, usually due to model availability or server workload. First, rest assured: you're never charged credits for anything that wasn't generated — including images or podcasts that didn't come through. Because outputs are variable, some items may occasionally be skipped or turn out differently than expected. If you're concerned, reach out to support@lightningrpg.com and we'll do our best to put it right.
